Hermès Is Bringing Its Hermèsmatic Pop-Up to NYC

Categories:Other Brands

BECAUSE WHO DOESN’T WANT TO VISIT AN H-THEMED LAUNDROMAT?

Though Hermès bags are more in my wheelhouse, Hermès scarves have a massive following as well (just check out this scarf of the day thread!). There are so many scarves released by the brand, signifying the year, the theme, a color story, and beyond. Though the house is very old in some ways, in others Hermès is young and fresh with initiatives like this. For a few days this month in NYC, Hermès is bringing it’s Hermèsmatic Pop-Up Store to the city which allows customers to give their Hermès silk scarves a sprucing up.

This pop-up allows you to take part in the complementary dip dye wash program where you can bring your vintage scarves and have them updated via washing machines and dip-dying. There are some photos floating around that show before and afters and while the change of color is nice, the entire set-up seems like quite the experience. Every detail is thought out to make it a very Hermès event from the retro laundromat to the orange washing machines, orange waiting seats, and Hermès washing powder.

A member on our forum, Pegase, shared a wealth of knowledge about the Hermèsmatic Pop-Up as it’s a traveling event hitting other major cities and she’s already visited. Pegase reports you can bring as many scarfs as you’d like to have dip dyed and it’s free. When she visited in Munich, there were 6 colors you could choose from, Gray, Violet, Red, Olive, Yellow, Pink and Red. Once you have your scarf treated, you pick it up two days later as it needs to be washed, dyed and washed again. The scarves are returned to you in a special canvas pouch and they give you Hermès soap in a cube, but you have to ask for it! It’s important to note that Hermès won’t take responsibility for the results as they can not tell you what the final version your scarf will look like.

I included some photos from the other pop-ups and results, but if you’re in NYC and can stop by, take a scarf and try this out and share with us how it goes! There’s a long thread on the PurseForum discussing this, so you could meet up with other tPFers and even if you don’t have a scarf, it’s probably a sight to see. Event details are below:

Hermèsmatic Pop-Up Store
90 Gansevoort Street, New York
Wednesday, June 14 through Sunday, June 18, 2017
11:00am – 8:00pm

Hermès Silk Twilly: Price Index 2017

Categories:Other Brands

IMAGE: HERMÈS

Still one of Hermès’ bestselling accessories (and pretty much the first thing everyone buys when they first discover the French luxury house), the Silk Twilly that can be worn in about 2752 ways, tying it on the wrist as a cool bracelet, on the handles of your favourite Hermès bag (or any other bag, for that matter), even around the neck of your cute puppy. The list just goes on and on. And as you get creative and figure out more ways to use this most essentials of silks, it’s also time to revisit the prices of this little gem.

Back in 2015, the Silk Twilly was priced at an all-time high of SGD270. Good news. Since then, the price of it in Singapore has been adjusted downwards, with the price currently at SGD240. Yes, that’s a SGD30reduction since its peak a couple of years back.

But before we get all flustered and stomp down to the boutique to buy even more, let’s all take a tour around the globe and see how prices have fared generally. In the US, prices have also dropped slightly, now retailing at USD160 (or SGD233 after conversion). In the UK it costs GBP125 (SGD218), while over in the EU like places in France or Italy, it is still priced the lowest, coming in at EUR145 or SGD215 or so after conversion.

Interestingly, as we get closer to home, prices only seem to get higher. In Japan, it costs around SGD292 (JPY22,680) while in Australia it will set you back by almost SGD300 (AUD285). Canada held the title of being the cheapest place in the world to get yourself a Silk Twilly in 2015, but the price adjustment has made that no longer true.  It’s now CAD225compared to CAD170, which also means you have to cough up SGD236for the same thing.

In other words, even after the worldwide adjustment, it is still the most affordable in Europe, followed by the UK and Canada (US is probably 4th because most states will levy an additional tax after purchase). Singapore’s probably 5th or 6th, so it’s no wonder Singaporeans love heading to Europe to shop so much.

A bag so-famous and so-wanted that it needs no introduction. Chance are, you’re hunting for one right now and the boutiques are kept telling you that they’re not available.

Hermès Garden Party36 Pockets

Categories:Other Brands

IMAGE: HERMÈS

This post happened because of my last one, when a reader on Facebook asked aboutGarden Party bags that came with slings, which stumped me for a while. Yes, I’ve seen them online on Instagram, but I wasn’t sure myself if they were vintage or worse, you know, copies with added improvements. Well that mystery is officially solved, and I can now safely tell you that what we’ve been seeing is actually this: Hermès’ Garden Party36 Pockets.

Called Garden Party36 because it measures almost 36 cm from end to end, it also comes with a sling that’s adjustable as well. There are also pockets that go around the exterior of the bag, and if I’m not wrong, 3 on the front and 3 on the back, which makes it a great workhorse as well, one that that offers additional space for your bits and bobs.

Available in a variety of colours on regular canvas and even one that comes striped (they call it Riga canvas), I’ve only seen them offered online so far over on Hermès UK and US sites. Priced at GBP2440 and USD3974 respectively, they should be aroundSGD5000 or so in Singapore, though honestly I haven’t seen any as yet.

Not cheap by any standards yes, but affordable by Hermès’ standards. And one that should fly off the shelves pretty quickly too, given how popular the Garden Party totes already are anyway. Adding a shoulder sling just makes them even more desirable (and user-friendly) if you ask me.
